Step-by-Step Hajj Guide

1. Enter the State of Ihram

Before reaching the Miqat, pilgrims enter the sacred state of Ihram by wearing the prescribed clothing, making the intention (Niyyah), and reciting the Talbiyah.

Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayka La Sharika Laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda Wan Ni’mata Laka Wal Mulk, La Sharika Lak.

2. Arrival in Makkah

Upon arriving in Makkah, pilgrims perform Tawaf by circling the Holy Kaaba seven times, followed by Sa’i between Safa and Marwah.

3. Journey to Mina (8th Dhul Hijjah)

Pilgrims travel to Mina where they spend the day and night in worship, prayer, and remembrance of Allah.

4. Standing at Arafat (9th Dhul Hijjah)

The Day of Arafat is the most important part of Hajj. Pilgrims gather at the Plain of Arafat, offering sincere prayers and seeking Allah’s forgiveness.

5. Muzdalifah

After sunset, pilgrims travel to Muzdalifah where they pray, rest, and collect small pebbles for the symbolic stoning ritual.

6. Rami at Jamarat

Pilgrims return to Mina and throw pebbles at the Jamarat, symbolising the rejection of evil and obedience to Allah.

7. Animal Sacrifice (Qurbani)

Those required perform the sacrifice in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) willingness to obey Allah’s command.

8. Shaving or Trimming the Hair

  • Men: Shave the head completely or trim the hair.
  • Women: Trim a small portion from the end of their hair.

After this, most restrictions of Ihram are lifted.

9. Tawaf al-Ifadah

Pilgrims return to Masjid al-Haram to perform Tawaf al-Ifadah, one of the essential acts of Hajj.

10. Farewell Tawaf

Before leaving Makkah, pilgrims perform Tawaf al-Wada (Farewell Tawaf) as their final act of worship.
